* Items that have been requested by another person cannot be renewed.
** Maximum fines on materials is $10.00 or the cost of the item
NOTE: Items borrowed from other libraries may have different loan periods & fines. |
Most library materials may be renewed ONE time unless:
There are now several ways to renew your materials -- by internet, by telephone or in person.
Please note you will need to provide your library barcode when renewing materials. |
To renew materials by phone:
Interlibrary loan materials from outside of PrairieCat are not always renewable. Loan periods for these interlibrary loans are set by the loaning libraries and we encourage patrons to use these materials in the time the home library has allotted. If a renewal is necessary, please contact our Interlibrary Loan Department at least four-working days before the material is due to give us time to get in touch with the loaning library to request a renewal.
A 1-day grace period is in place for print materials, audiobooks and music CDs. Fines are not charged for days the Library is closed, i.e. Sundays, holidays, or weather-related closings. Fines for items renewed or returned after the grace period will be calculated from the initial due date.
When patrons check-out they are given a “Due Date Receipt” printout listing items checked-out and the date each item is due back at the Library. Library materials that are kept beyond the “due date” printed on the “Due Date Receipt” printout are considered overdue. Charges for overdue materials are as follows:
Patrons are considered delinquent when they have $5.00 or more in fines or have 5 items overdue. Such patrons are denied checkout and computer privileges until the delinquency is cleared or brought below the $5.00 fine threshold.
Patrons will receive a telephone or email Courtesy Notice as a reminder that their checkouts will be due within three days. A courtesy overdue notice will be sent when items are 7, 14, 21 and 30 days overdue. A final bill which includes the full cost of each item for unreturned materials will be sent when items have been overdue for 44 days. Failure to receive an overdue notice does not exempt a library card holder from responsibility for overdue fines.
Materials may be returned in the outside, drive-up bookdrop which is located in the alley at the building entrance. It is open 24-hours a day, 365-days a year. We do not restrict what may be returned in the bookdrop but please consider that media such as CDs and DVDs could be damaged in extreme weather conditions. Materials may also be returned to other area public libraries. The Flagg-Rochelle Public Library accepts library materials from other Illinois libraries.
Library material is not considered returned until all of its parts are returned (tapes, DVDs, CDs, liner notes, booklets, instructions, etc.) The item will remain checked out to the patron and fines will accumulate on partially returned items (if overdue) until the missing part(s) is returned.
Patrons are responsible for the condition of library materials checked out on their cards. No fees will be assessed for damages which can be easily repaired. Materials damaged beyond repair, will be charged the full replacement cost. A $5.00 processing fee will be added to the replacement charge of each item.
Patrons will be charged the full replacement cost for library materials that are not returned to the library or are lost. A $5.00 processing fee is added to the replacement charge of each item. A receipt will be issued when replacement fees are paid. Replacements will be purchased by the Library. A refund for ‘Lost & Paid’ materials may be issued if the item is returned in good shape and is accompanied with the paid receipt. The $5.00 processing fee is not reimbursed.
Flagg-Rochelle Public Library patrons may place a “hold” or “reserve” on most circulating items found in the PrairieCat catalog - even if the material is checked out. Holds may be placed in person at the Library or at home on-line.
To request an item be set aside or brought in from another library, go to the PrairieCat catalog on our website and login using your library barcode and PIN number. Once you have searched the catalog and found what you wanted, click REQUEST IT. If you did not login before you searched for your item you will be asked for your library card number (all 14-digits) and PIN number. When you have verified that the Flagg-Rochelle Public Library is listed in the “Pickup” box, click on the “SUBMIT” button. You may then go back to searching for additional items.
Please Note: Patrons from neighboring libraries with Reciprocal Borrowing Cards must request materials through their home libraries. |
PrairieCat will notify you by phone or email when your request is ready for pick-up. You will have 6-days to pick-up your items. You can check "MY ACCOUNT" to see when these items will be removed from the HOLDS SHELF and sent on to the next person/library waiting for them.
If you are picking up holds for another family member, please be aware you must have their library card with you. Because of confidentiality laws, Library Staff is unable to look-up library card numbers.
